    Passionflowers are so remarkably complex but I wonder what earned this one the name of ‘Silly Cow’? I grew these vines successfully in my old garden (well, as long as success includes the vines being almost consumed annually by the larva of Gulf Fritillary butterflies) but I haven’t been able to make a go of them in my current garden.

    It was named by the breeder, Miles Irvine after the nickname he has for a friend. Goodness knows what he calls people he doesn’ t like.

      But it is a gorgeous colour and huge, how unfair to be called Silly Cow. I was a bit worried when I published it in case people thought I was being rude to my readers.

      I gather it was a term of affection but stiĺl it doesn’ t seem fair to give such a silly name to a stunning flower. It is huge and gorgeous.

    It is an unfortunate name but it is gorgeous with huge flowers and long navy blue filaments.
