The Blooming Garden 
Wow! Mind you, I had a Pasque flower blooming a week or so ago!
Well, that must be a confused Pasque flower, but this Galanthus reginae-olgae is actually flowering in its normal season.
I looked it up on the internet and found a Wikipedia page in German but not English: translated, its German name is Queen Olga’s Snowdrop and apparently it is very rare. You have a real treasure there!
You’ll have all the galanthaphiles shaking with pleasure!
Well it gave me a little tremor of delight. I had forgotten it was there and then I caught sight of it looking so serene and beautiful..

This one is supposed to flower now. It has been blooming for a week.
Oops! Well, I didn’t know that. Snowflakes in summer, yes, but not an autumn snowdrop. I’ve learned something today!
Oh my, this snowdrop is beautiful, I had not realised that there was an Autumn flowering snowdrop, I expect its very precious!
It is not hard to find.There is another October – flowering one called Galanthus peshmenii, I don’ t know how readily available it is though.
First snowdrop of the season, Chloris – and not one I have got, because I am not absolutely sure I want to have an autumn flowering snowdrop 😉
I always forget that it is there and it gives me a real thrill to come across it looking so beautiful. When I went to check the other one I have, I found that it had already finished blooming and I hadn’ t noticed it. I do love these early- blooming snowdrops, specially when they take you by surprise.
I can understand where Cathy is coming from. If I came across it though I doubt I would be able to resist it..

What a beauty, I have a soft spot for snowdrops, such delicate yet hardy little plants.xxx
They keep us going through the winter when there isn’ t much else for us to enjoy.
Now that’s a beauty Chloris and one that I must add to my small collection. I don’t think that I will catch a glimpse of white for a few more weeks.
I think you have a large collection Anna. You are the Snowdrop Queen. I am surprised that you haven’ t got this one. I think you really need it.

This isn’ t the only one. There is another beauty called Galanthus peshmenii.

Yes do try and find it. I wonder if Galanthus reginae- olgae is available over there?
I will check it out + see. I did plant a bunch of new bulbs this year for the bees. Do I purchase this as a plant/bulb?

I love the autumn versions of our late winter/ spring bulbs! They offer us a glimpse of the wonders to come later.
I agree and they extend the season; we can go on enjoying snowdrops from October until April if we want to.
Already! That would even be unusual here, where the bulbs get an early start.
It is an October flowering snowdrop from Greece. You can have snowdrops in bloom from October until the end of April if you select the right varieties.
Gorgeous! I was given a few bulbs of this earlier in the year but they have not made an appearance – I must look closer tomorrow.
Go and have a look, it should be out now. Mind you, I don’ t think mine flowered in its first year.You might have to wait until next year.

What a treasure, I’m glad you gave it your seal of approval since I’ve heard there are people out there who resent a spring bloomer in fall.
I was lucky and ended up with a fall blooming elwessii in a batch of garden center bulbs. It was beautiful but I’m afraid it didn’t make it through the year….
I have snowdrops that take me through from October until late April. I don’ t know why people would be picky about when they are in bloom. They are gorgeous whenever they appear. A shame about your autumn one failing.
I’ve never heard of a fall snowdrop. Very interesting! I just planted a bunch of regular snowdrops in a pot near my backdoor. I’ll see them there easier in the winter than in the garden. It will be a great early morning reminder that winter won’t last forever. 🙂
I love snowdrops they are one of the joys of winter.
